Hang Holiday Decorations While Protecting Paint: 7 Simple Tips
It’s time to decorate your home for the holidays. As much as your Naples painter would love to see you again, nobody wants to damage paint while hanging decorations.
Thankfully, there are easy ways to hang holiday decorations without damaging your walls and interior paint! Keep reading for a few ideas.
3M Command Hooks
3M Command hooks help preserve your paint. They come in a variety of styles for just about any use. Command hooks attach to nearly any surface, even your mantle or brick fireplace. Look for sturdier hooks to hold heavier decorations, or picture strips for flat wall hangings. When it’s time to pack up your holiday decorations just pull the adhesive off and throw them away. No damage.
Hang Decorations on Doors
Over-the-door hangers are good options that can be used year after year. Holiday wreaths look great hung on a door, of course. Hooks on doors are great for advent calendars, tapestries and festive wooden signs as well.
Clothesline Displays
A clothesline display is another way to minimize damage to your paint. By hanging several pieces from one line, you are left with just two small holes from either side of the string. Craft stores will offer a variety of decorative twine or ribbon to choose from. Small clothespins or clips to attach photos or holiday cards are also available. A small string of holiday lights can be used in place of string as well.
Hang Holiday Lights With No Damage
Wrap or hang holiday lights from items already in your home. This prevents damaging your walls with tacks or nails. String lights hung behind your curtains create a cozy glow. Or, line existing picture frames in festive light. For a unique display, bundle battery-powered lights inside a jar or vase.
Decorative Tape
Try decorative tape for displaying lightweight photos and cards. Small pieces of decorative washi tape add extra color and leave your paint damage-free. You can find decorative tape at most craft or office supply stores.
Hang Decorations in Windows
If you’re still nervous about hanging anything on your painted walls, decorate your windows instead.
Paper snowflakes are easy and fun to make even outside of grade school. Anyone can learn how to make beautiful 3-D designs. Or, crisscross brightly colored ribbon over a window like wrapping a present. Both of these designs attach easily with a small piece of transparent tape.
If you’re not crafty, lightweight ornaments look great hung in windows. An arrangement of dried branches, poinsettias or festive candles on the window sill are another option.
Damage From Nails
If all else fails, remember that damage caused by small nails isn’t so bad. Nails may leave holes behind, but these are very easy to repair. Just a tiny bit of spackle and a little paint is all it takes. If you have any questions, feel free to contact a professional painter with any concerns.
